How to convert a Microsoft Access .mdb to .accdb

Product Microsoft Access 2010

To convert an Access .mdb to .accdb

    1. Open the Microsoft Access .mdb file you want to convert
    2. Go to: File > Save & Publish
    3. File Types: Save Database As
    4. Save Database As: Access Database (*.accdb)
    5. Click the "Save As" button

You should then see the "This Database has been upgraded to the Access 2007 File Format."

If you get a "file already in use" error after clicking the "Save As" button,

Then follow these steps:

    1. Open Microsoft Access 2010
    2. File > Open
    3. Navigate to the .mdb file you want to convert
    4. Click once on the file so that its name appears in the "File name:" field.
    5. While holding the <Shift> key, click on the Open button.
    6. Go to: File > Save & Publish
    7. File Types: Save Database As
    8. Save Database As: Access Database (*.accdb)
    9. Click the "Save As" button
